Jake reading with his tutor, Carrie.
Jake had been working with the DSACO for about 10 months when he and his mom took a trip to the aquarium, one of his favorite activities. Jake’s mom stopped short in a hallway when she heard Jake clapping out syllables and whispering to himself. He pointed at the nearby display and said “Mom! That’s a Golden Mantella!” He was tapping out the syllables and using learned strategies from his sessions with a DSACO tutor to figure out the wording on the exhibit. Through his work with DSACO, Jake had unlocked a new level of access, and a whole new experience.
HOMAGE is proud to support DSACO’s work this World Down Syndrome Day and always. A portion of net proceeds from the sales of our Down Right Awesome collection will benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio.
